雖然休士頓火箭依舊止步季後賽首輪、雖然執教調度飽受爭議、雖然球隊內部「人和」問題尚未解決，球團還是決定續留總教練Kevin McHale。

NBA官網記者David Aldridge爆料，火箭原本打算將與波特蘭拓荒者的系列賽當作McHale的「期末考」，雖然輸球，當中不少敗仗差距其實不大，讓球團決定執行他最後1年的保證約。

火箭本季雷聲大、雨點小，找來超級中鋒「魔獸」Dwight Howard助拳，還是無法闖過首輪，第6戰遭「絕殺」的調度也被批評的體無完膚。

McHale從2011-12年球季擔任火箭主帥，至今3季累積172勝、152負，但季後賽從未闖過首輪。
